Post-Summer Clean Up at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort

LEGOLAND Windsor is re-opening today. Didn’t know it had been closed? Well after a Summer of visitors turning up to enjoy the Resort, and check out some of the special events that have been going on, the park needs a bit of a spruce up. LEGOLAND staff have been busily dusting, polishing and maintaining the models and attractions at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.

The good folk at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort passed along some information and images to share that give us all a glimpse behind the scenes.

Each September, the park at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort closes down for two days to clean up after the summer holidays and get everything spick and span for the Halloween season. The model making team yesterday (September 25th) patrolled the park making repairs and sprucing up a vast array of models – from the very tiny to the extremely large.

Most urgent on the clean-up list was a brick-by-brick scrub for the 3m long, 6m tall smoke breathing Dragon perched in a tower, 3.5metres above ground in the giant clock tower outside the LEGOLAND Hotel. Both this and the giant 6m high pharaoh in Kingdom of the Pharaohs, made of 200,000 bricks, required special access so the model makers could make sure each brick sparkled.

It’s nice to know that these impressive models are getting the care they deserve. Thinking back to March when the LEGOLAND Hotel opened, it would be a shame if guests didn’t get to see the dragon looking all shiny and fresh.

On the smaller side were the miniature cars in the Resort’s famous Driving School which were valeted by hand, and each of the characters in the 6,000 strong LEGO minifigure wall in the hotel's reception received an individual spruce up. The impressive levitating Millennium Falcon, in the LEGO(R) STAR WARS(TM) Miniland experience was next in line, followed by famous miniland landmarks like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge and the Miniland Royal Family getting a dusting down.

There are thousands of models made from  over 80 million LEGO bricks across the whole of the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort requiring daily care and attention from the five strong model team based at a special studio in the heart of the Resort.

To show a little balance here, I will point out that there are some areas on Miniland that need a little more than a polish and dust! The working loch, which used to fascinate guests when the park first opened, has not been working for years. There are other examples too of areas that feel a bit neglected.

After a Summer of events such as Super Heroes Weekend, Friends Week and Pink Brick’s Dance Off it’s good to know that the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is being freshened up to send the year off in style. Stay tuned to All About Bricks to stay up to date on these upcoming events.

The Resort re-opens on 27th September to prepare for an exciting autumn with Halloween Brick or Treat and Monster Fighter Fireworks running in October and November.
